Day 3: What I am

I've loved this quote for quite some time, so I was delighted to find this hand carved image over at Just Something I Made...

Read the lovely little story behind this sign HERE.

As a teenager, I spent some time working at a charming little museum.  It was located within a beautiful old Victorian house.  I assisted with everything from cataloging interesting artifacts to creating craft projects for children.

The museum's curator was also an illustrator of popular children's books, but more importantly he was also a man with such wonderful spirit... consistently cheerful and absolutely genuine.  There was always time for a coffee break and a chat with the visitors, volunteers, and characters that frequented the museum.

When I was trying to decide what direction to take career wise after art school, he told me something that has always stuck with me.  He told me that no matter what I decided to do, to always remember that I am an artist first.

So in the words of Popeye...  "I am what I am and that's all that I am."

I am an artist... but I also happen to be a few other things as well... a woman, a daughter, a wife, a mother... to name just a few.

What about you?  Who are you?

This post is part of my blog series, "31 Days of Words to Live By".  For the month of October, I will be sharing my favourite quotes and sayings while incorporating them into daily life and art projects.

This series was inspired by The Inspired Room, where you'll find other "31 Days" series among many other wonderful things!
