Day 17: Pushing My Swing

Source: decorpad.com via Andrea on Pinterest

Oliver is at such a delightfully funny age.  While at the neighbourhood park, he likes to sit in the red wiggly car and will even tolerate going down the slide while in Mommy's lap.  He's not too fond of the sand and will make a funny face if any gets on his hands.

But the one thing that he absolutely refuses to have anything to do with is the swing set.  I've tried to place him in the baby swing, hoping that he'll enjoy the experience, only to end up with a screaming and crying toddler clutched to my clothing with what Daddy calls the "death grip".

So when my Mom and I took Oliver to the park earlier this month, we decided to skip the baby swing and try the regular playground swings... with Ollie in my Mom's lap, of course.  I even joined in on my own swing, trying to show him that there's nothing to be afraid of.

As I swung higher and higher, I realized that I had forgotten just how fun and freeing it is to be on a swing.  With every motion of the swing, not only did I feel the refreshing rush of wind against my face, I felt the bitter yet sweet waves of nostalgia.

I remembered how it felt as a little girl, to race to the playground and be delighted to find an available swing waiting there.  I remembered the silly games and pushing our swings to the highest limitations.

Now that I'm all grown up, it's nice to remember from time to time that...

"The world is a playground, and life is pushing my swing."
- Natty Nats

Well, despite our efforts, Oliver clearly still did not enjoy the swings.  Maybe next time.  Until then...

Thanks for swinging by.

  3. THIS is beautiful. I also love that feeling of swinging higher and higher... You're right - as adults, we kinda forget it once and a while.... ;)
