Tea Time, Old World Eggs, and Scrappier Sparrows

We like our tea around here.  Green, Earl Grey, Chai, Ginger Lemongrass, Jasmine... and even Blueberry flavours are a part of our collection.  So it was about time that I tried putting our teas to good use around here {other than drinking it}.

I tried my hand at dyeing some plain white paper...  and I am really pleased with the results.

Here's the how to...

Put pen to paper.
An ultra fine tipped permanent Sharpie marker is perfect for loose and loopy writing.  I used legal sized paper.

Bubble, bubble, boil and bubble.
Place a tea bag {I used Earl Grey} into a bowl and pour in boiling water.  Let cool.

I chose a small bowl... not exactly sure why... maybe because it took up less of our small kitchen?

Dip the tip.
Start by wetting the one end and then the other.

Moisten the Middle.
Fold the paper in half and wet the centre.

Scrunch it.
Crumple the paper into the tea.

Squeeze it.
Remove the paper and squish all of the liquid out.  Gently unfold.

Hung out to dry.
Either lay out or hang up to dry.  I just used my laundry drying rack.  Here's a look at my new vintage looking paper all dry...

I stored them under some heavy books for awhile.  Then I made these...

This Book Page Egg tutorial from Lemon Tree Creations showed me a great way to Mod Podge plastic Easter eggs.  I picked up a package of 6 large eggs for .94 cents and already had the little ones.  I love their aged look and I especially like that they're not screaming EASTER in bright pastel colours.

The little cloth bird was made the same way as the Scrappy Sparrows that I made earlier this week.  Instead of using scrapbook paper, I used fabric.  Well, actually I used these...

I was originally thinking of using burlap or drop cloth material.  But when I found these shop towels for less than $5 for a 10 pack, I couldn't resist.  And one bird uses up only half a cloth.

Once my bird shapes were cut out, I glue gunned around the perimeter, leaving an opening at the bottom.  Next, I stuffed the inside with cotton balls {That was my Mom's idea}.  Then I glued the opening shut while adding the paperclip legs.  Add some cloth wings, fray the edges a bit, and there you go... an even Scrappier Sparrow!

While I was working on my crafty projects, Oliver was working on his own little project...

...lunchtime finger painting on his chair tray.

Well, I think it's time for a cup of tea.

Thanks for stopping in.

  10. These are gorgeous!! I love them! I tried dying some paper in tea and it just looked kind of funky, but yours is really lovely!! I agree about loving them not screaming Easter with pastels and everything. That look is sweet for some people, but it's nice to have some neutral alternatives!

So glad you liked the eggs and tried them out!! Thanks for linking back to me!!

    Have a great weekend :)

  28. This is great!!

I'm thinking I could use this technique with some of the kids' writing as well! I got all those used notebooks that my son used all year long when school ended and this could be a good way to memorialize a sample of handwriting. Hmmm, but what would I cover with the paper?...Hmmm.. Maybe I could just frame it. Ideas will come from this!

  33. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
